The Eichenbaum Lab at Georgia State University focuses on understanding the biology of disease-causing bacteria, uncovering mechanisms behind their host adaptation, persistence, and pathogenicity. Our research emphasizes identifying pathogen vulnerabilities to develop innovative strategies for preventing and treating infections.
Our current projects investigate the molecular mechanisms of iron and heme management in two human pathogens, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes, and their critical roles in the host-pathogen interface. By delving into these interactions, we aim to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in infectious disease research.
Candidate Responsibilities
As a PhD student in the Eichenbaum Lab, you will:
Design and conduct experiments to explore bacterial mechanisms of survival, persistence, and pathogenicity.
Utilize cutting-edge molecular biology techniques to analyze host-pathogen interactions.
Contribute to identifying therapeutic targets to combat bacterial infections.
Publish your findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
Participate in departmental seminars, workshops, and conferences to disseminate research findings.
Eligibility Requirements
We welcome highly motivated candidates with the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
Strong interest in bacteriology, cell biology, or immunology.
Laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.
