The Micro/nano-Engineering Laboratory at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC) is excited to announce multiple fully funded PhD positions in Computational Engineering. These positions offer an exceptional opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratories, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation.
Successful candidates will engage in innovative research on topics such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, nanoscale transport phenomena, material science, molecular dynamics, density functional theory, surface chemistry, transition state search, and molecular and interfacial phenomena.
Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will:
Conduct high-level computational research in one or more of the aforementioned focus areas.
Collaborate with researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratories on interdisciplinary projects.
Develop computational models and simulations to explore advanced engineering problems.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and workshops to enhance your professional development.
Eligibility Requirements
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
Strong interest in computational methods and their application to engineering problems.
Prior experience with computational work, such as molecular dynamics simulations, density functional theory, or heat transfer modeling, is highly valued.
Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar platforms are desirable.
Personal Attributes:
Motivated and enthusiastic about conducting high-impact research.
Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
