Join the Electrocatalytic Interface Engineering department at the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg (HI ERN) to contribute to cutting-edge research in polymer and membrane technologies for Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) fuel cells and electrolyzers. You will collaborate with leading experts in the fields of catalysis, polymer synthesis, and electrochemically active materials, making a tangible impact on the energy transition.
This position focuses on developing novel anion-conducting polymers and membranes, pushing the boundaries of their application in sustainable energy systems operating at elevated temperatures (up to 90°C).
Key Responsibilities
Synthesis and Analysis: Design and synthesize anion-conducting solid electrolyte polymers, and produce and characterize alkaline membranes for fuel cells and electrolyzers.
Research Development: Conduct in-depth analysis of material properties and evaluate performance under realistic operating conditions.
Dissemination of Research: Publish findings in top-tier scientific journals, present at national and international conferences, and participate in project meetings.
Eligibility Requirements
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who meet the following criteria:
Educational Background:
Master’s degree in chemistry or materials science with excellent grades.
Specialized Knowledge:
Expertise in synthetic and analytical polymer chemistry and membrane technology.
Familiarity with alkaline solid electrolyte polymers and their use in electrochemical processes such as fuel cells and water electrolysis (preferred but not mandatory).
Research Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in research.
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in spoken and written English.
