About the Position
The Institute of Fluid Dynamics at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position to advance the development of AI-assisted performance testing of electrode materials for water electrolysis. This research is part of our commitment to solving global challenges in energy, health, and matter.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and international research environment, contributing to innovative projects aimed at improving sustainability and energy efficiency in industrial processes.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and manufacture hierarchically structured electrocatalytic materials using advanced electrochemical and laser deposition techniques.
- Adapt small electrolyzer platforms for high-throughput testing of electrode materials, including those from Helmholtz partner institutes.
- Conduct performance tests on electrode materials (e.g., surface properties, electrochemical behavior, and bubble dynamics) using statistical experiment planning and AI-based feature extraction to optimize operating parameters.
Eligibility Requirements
We are hiring a highly motivated candidates with:
- A Master’s/Diploma degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of electrochemistry and material science, with basic understanding of image analysis.
- Hands-on experimental skills.
- Programming experience in Python.
- Proficiency in English (both written and oral).
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
