About the Position

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute of Process Engineering and Environmental Technology invites applications for a Research Associate / PhD Student to join the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering. This role focuses on the development of self-adaptive knitted metallic packings for industrial contact and reaction apparatuses as part of the Industrial Joint Research (IGF) program, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK).

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative technologies that enhance process control in industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop self-adaptive metallic packings for process control in reactors.
  • Conduct experimental investigations into hydrodynamics and transport processes.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic simulation model to describe interactions between packing structure and process dynamics.
  • Collaborate on the design of a technology demonstrator for industrial applications.
  • Present research findings in academic journals and at conferences.

Eligibility Requirements

We are hiring highly motivated candidates with:

  • A Master’s/Diploma degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Energy Engineering, Technical Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in process modeling (e.g., AspenONE, MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Skills in data analysis and programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
  • Enthusiasm for experimental research and solving engineering challenges.
  • Creativity and an interest in team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
