The PhD project will investigate the interactions between Daphnia (a key freshwater zooplankton species) and cyanobacteria, with a special focus on the biochemical processes underpinning these interactions. This research aims to deepen our understanding of freshwater ecology and biochemical mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
Design and conduct factorial indoor experiments exploring Daphnia-cyanobacteria interactions.
Analyze cyanobacterial metabolites using HPLC and HPLC-MS (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry).
Perform lipid analyses using gas chromatography.
Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students in laboratory and practical course settings (approximately 2 semester hours).
Eligibility Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biology, ideally with a focus on experimental freshwater ecology or Daphnia research.
Strong interest in exploring the biochemical interactions between Daphnia and cyanobacteria.
High motivation to learn advanced analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, and gas chromatography.
Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
