PhD Position Information

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is offering a dynamic doctoral position focused on Cold Mix Asphalt (CMA), an innovative road construction technology aimed at reducing resource usage, energy consumption, and environmental impact. This project, funded by the Swedish Competence Centre in Road Technology (KCV), is an excellent opportunity to contribute to sustainable infrastructure development.

Project Overview

The research focuses on understanding and advancing CMA technology by conducting:

  • Experimental and numerical modelling on bitumen emulsions, binders, and CMA mixtures.
  • Finite Element analyses to assess material behavior and road sustainability.
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) framework to evaluate environmental impact.

This collaborative project is conducted with VTI – the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute and offers the unique opportunity to transition from KTH to VTI employment after two years, continuing towards a doctoral degree.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as civil engineering, materials science, or a related discipline.
  • Completed coursework equivalent to 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 second-cycle credits.
  • Proficiency in English (equivalent to English B/6).

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to:

  • Pursue independent research.
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Tackle complex issues with a professional approach.
