Position Overview

Dr. Nur Zincir-Heywood of Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Computer Science is inviting applications from exceptional students worldwide for fully funded PhD and Master of Computer Science (MCS) opportunities. These positions focus on pioneering research in Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Networks, and Computer Science, with an emphasis on monitoring and analyzing changes and adversities in communication networks and services.

Students will work on cutting-edge topics including wired and wireless networks, Internet of Things (IoT), and vehicular networks, leveraging advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to enhance cyber resilience.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Qualifications:
    • PhD Candidates: A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • MCS Candidates: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Skill Requirements:
    • Strong background in computer networks, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning.
    • Ability to conduct independent research while also thriving in a team-based environment.
    • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in machine learning and network analysis.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • A keen interest in contributing to research in wired/wireless communication systems, IoT, or vehicular networks.

Responsibilities

As a research student, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing experiments to study network security and resilience.
  • Developing machine learning and artificial intelligence models for analyzing network changes and adversities.
  • Collaborating with a dynamic team of researchers in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Publishing research findings in high-impact journals and presenting them at international conferences.
  • Contributing to the overall research goals of the lab, including mentoring junior researchers when required.
