Central Queensland University invites applications for a fully funded PhD project aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by shiftworkers, on-call workers, and gig workers in managing sleep and physical activity. This groundbreaking research will develop a smartphone-enabled digital assistant that leverages wearable technology and advanced machine learning to deliver personalized recommendations for improved workplace health, productivity, and safety.
This project will be based at CQUniversity’s renowned Appleton Institute in Adelaide, a hub for multidisciplinary research excellence in sleep science, occupational health, and safety. You will collaborate with leading experts and work on cutting-edge research that has real-world impact.
Eligibility Requirements
We are hiring motivated candidates who meet the following criteria:
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree with Honours I or IIA, Master’s Degree, or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., public health, psychology, sport and exercise science).
Residency and Enrolment:
Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or an international student (with tuition fees waived).
Eligible for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy program at CQUniversity.
Able to enrol full-time at CQUniversity’s Adelaide campus (or with approved remote arrangements within Australia).
Scholarship Restrictions:
Must not have previously received a Commonwealth or CQUniversity-funded research scholarship unless terminated within six months.
Cannot be receiving another award or scholarship exceeding 75% of this stipend.
Desired Skills and Qualities
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent planning, organizational, and independent work capabilities.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and meet deadlines.
Willingness to travel nationally or internationally for data collection or conferences.
No prior experience with AI or machine learning is required.
