Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Computer Science invites applications for a fully funded PhD position under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Brooks, focusing on the cutting-edge intersection of computer graphics, artificial intelligence, and user interaction.
This research aims to develop novel methodologies for the aesthetic display, navigation, and arrangement of 3D content, integrating perceptual and aesthetic principles. The work will advance interactive 3D graphics by introducing new techniques for high dynamic range graphics, virtual world navigation, and structured presentation of 3D models. The project’s ultimate goal is to enhance accessibility and usability in virtual and augmented environments by embedding perceptual and aesthetic considerations into the foundation of 3D content management.
Key Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will:
Design and implement algorithms for the arrangement and display of 3D content, emphasizing aesthetics and user accessibility.
Explore navigation techniques within virtual and augmented reality spaces.
Integrate artificial intelligence methodologies to enhance graphical rendering and interaction.
Conduct perceptual studies to evaluate the effectiveness of developed methods.
Publish findings in high-impact journals and present research at international conferences.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the Faculty of Computer Science and external partners.
Eligibility Requirements
We are hiring motivated candidates with:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, or related fields. Exceptional Bachelor’s degree holders may also be considered.
