The University of Bergen invites applications for a PhD position within the project "Optimizing the Implementation and Scale-Up of WHO Treatment Decisions for Children with Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Sub-Saharan Africa (OPTIC-TB)." This cluster randomized controlled trial spans Tanzania, Uganda, and DR Congo and is funded by the University of Bergen. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research addressing critical global health challenges.
Key Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, your tasks will include:
Developing or adapting tools for data collection on costs and economic evaluations tailored to the project’s study sites.
Training and guiding research assistants in the use of these tools, followed by pre-testing in Tanzania, Uganda, and DR Congo.
Overseeing the collection of cost data related to tuberculosis (TB) management from both provider and patient perspectives.
Supervising the collection of health-related quality of life data.
Creating dynamic Markov models for economic evaluations and budget impact analyses.
Analyzing collected data, preparing manuscripts, and publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.
Presenting findings in conferences, seminars, and other academic forums.
Collaborating with project partners and participating in consortium meetings.
Eligibility Criteria
Required Qualifications:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Health Economics.
Relevant research experience in global health or related fields is an advantage.
Strong ability to work independently, structured, and collaboratively in a team.
High motivation and capability to undertake PhD research.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Additional Requirements for Non-Norwegian Applicants:
Certified translations of diplomas and transcripts into English or a Scandinavian language, if not originally in one of these languages.
A review of qualifications by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) to verify equivalency to Norwegian Master’s standards.
Documentation of English language proficiency.
