Contract2 weeks ago
PhD Position Information

This position is hosted by the Expert Centre for Lymphedema under Prof. Dr. Sarah Thomis and the research group of Nutrition & Metabolism Associated Diseases led by Prof. Dr. Christophe Matthys.

About the Project

The project, funded by FWO-TBM, investigates the therapeutic potential of nutritional ketosis in restoring lymphatic drainage and reducing the physical and psychosocial impact of lymphedema. The randomized controlled trial (RCT) will compare three arms:

  1. Classic Ketogenic Diet (CKD): Promoting endogenous ketosis.
  2. Ketone Ester Supplementation (KE): Inducing exogenous ketosis.
  3. Control Arm: Following a healthy diet alongside standard care.

The study will evaluate key outcomes such as improved lymphatic function, reduced edema volume, and enhanced quality of life. Upon completion, this innovative approach could revolutionize lymphedema treatment, significantly improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
