About the Position

This opportunity is part of the EU-funded “Sustaining Public Administration in Modern Democracies (SUPA)” research project. The SUPA project examines how democratic governments can manage the growing complexity of policy implementation effectively and sustainably.

As a PhD student, you will be part of a multidisciplinary, international consortium of leading research institutions in Europe. Your research will center on evaluating the effectiveness of “rule-offsetting” schemes, contributing to SUPA’s mission of developing strategies for resilient public administrations.

This studentship is hosted by the Department of Political Science at Södertörn University, known for its extensive research on governance, democracy, and policy analysis in European and Nordic contexts.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct research within the SUPA project, focusing on public policy and administration.
  • Employ both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze patterns of rule growth and administrative challenges.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary, international team, contributing to the broader goals of the SUPA consortium.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Engage actively in the academic life of the department, including teaching and seminar participation.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in Political Science or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in public administration, comparative politics, or governance.
  • Have proficiency in research methods, including qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Show the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Prior experience in research related to public administration, European governance, or rule-setting mechanisms will be advantageous.
