The University of Cincinnati is advancing the field of structural health monitoring (SHM) with innovative ultrasonic sensors capable of operating in extreme environments, including high temperatures exceeding 550°C. Sponsored by the US Department of Energy and industry partners, this project focuses on designing and deploying state-of-the-art sensors for real-world applications.
Depending on the candidate’s background and interests, the project scope can include:
Fundamental Research: Exploring the physics and principles behind sensor performance in extreme environments.
Engineering Design: Developing robust sensor solutions tailored to industry needs.
Computer Simulation: Simulating sensor behavior and system performance under various conditions.
Electronics Development: Designing and testing electronic components for sensor functionality.
The research will involve a combination of laboratory experiments and industry installations, offering a dynamic and applied research experience.
Candidate Requirements
We welcome candidates with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. The ideal candidate should have:
Educational Background: At least a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Engineering or Physics. A GPA of 3.5 or equivalent is preferred.
Training: No specific prior experience in computer simulation or electronics is required, as comprehensive training will be provided.
Language Proficiency: For candidates whose first language is not English, an IELTS score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent) is required.
A strong interest in structural health monitoring, ultrasonic sensors, or related areas.
