The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites passionate individuals to apply for 15 funded PhD positions within the WIFORCE Research School, part of the prestigious Wallenberg Initiatives in Forest Research. Located across SLU campuses in Umeå, Uppsala, and Alnarp, these positions cover a wide range of forest-related topics, addressing critical issues such as biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable forest management.
Through interdisciplinary research, WIFORCE aims to generate cutting-edge scientific knowledge and develop innovative analytical tools to ensure the sustainable use of forests while safeguarding biodiversity. Research areas span remote sensing, soil dynamics, carbon balance, mycology, ecophysiology, pollination, and insect biodiversity, among others.
Eligibility Requirements
We welcome applications from individuals worldwide who meet the following criteria:
Academic Qualifications:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Forestry, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and significant research experience may also be considered.
Skills and Interests:
Strong interest in forest biodiversity, sustainable forestry, or related areas.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative research.
Proficiency in relevant research tools such as GIS, remote sensing software, or programming languages (specific to certain positions).
Language Requirements:
Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
Responsibilities
As a PhD student at SLU, you will:
Conduct Research:
Carry out innovative research in your chosen field, contributing to the broader objectives of the WIFORCE Research School.
Collaborate with Experts:
Work closely with world-class supervisors and peers from diverse disciplines, as well as engage with industrial and academic partners.
Publish and Present Findings:
Present your research at international conferences and publish in high-impact journals.
Participate in WIFORCE Activities:
Engage in training programs, workshops, and interdisciplinary research discussions organized by the research school.
